Ranji Trophy 2022-23: Ravindra Jadeja takes 7/53 in Tamil Nadu’s 2nd innings; Saurashtra set 266 to win

Jadeja helped Saurashtra wrap the TN second innings for 133 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja | TwitterSaurashtra captain and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja came to the party with the ball for his team in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2022-23 encounter against Tamil Nadu which is being played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

This match is of huge importance to Jadeja, as he is making a comeback to cricket since having surgery on his knee and had been out of action since the Asia Cup 2022 and missed the T20 World Cup 2022 as well.

Tamil Nadu had won the toss and chose to bat first and posted 324 runs in their 1st innings with Baba Indrajith (66), Vijay Shankar (53), and Shahrukh Khan (50) being the top scorers. For Saurashtra, Yuvraj Singh Dodiya picked 4/72, Dharmendrasinh Jadeja took 3 wickets, and Ravindra Jadeja got only one wicket while bowling 24 overs.

In reply, Saurashtra managed just 192 runs with Chirag Jani top-scoring with 49 runs, while for Tamil Nadu, M Siddarth and Ajith Ram picked three wickets apiece.

With a lead of 132 runs, Tamil Nadu had hoped for a huge target to put pressure on Saurashtra, but their plans were foiled by Ravindra Jadeja, who turned his magic on.

B Sai Sudarshan with 38 and Baba Indrajith with 27 were the only ones who crossed the 20-run mark as Tamil Nadu was folded for 133 runs. The bowling star proved to be Ravindra Jadeja with figures of 7/53 in 17.1 overs.

His bowling partner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja picked three wickets as both spinners proved to be too much for TN batters to handle. This enabled Saurashtra to set themselves a target of 266 runs to win the match.

This performance of Jadeja will give Indian captain Rohit Sharma and selectors much confidence in his fitness as well, as he has been named in the Indian squad for the first two Tests against Australia of the four-match series.
