The Mumbai team led by Ajinkya Rahane continued to pile on the misery on Hyderabad bowlers in their second-round encounter of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2022-23 tournament.
Putting Mumbai in to bat after winning the toss, Hyderabad managed to get Prithvi Shaw out early for 19 runs, but then Yashasvi Jaiswal and Suryakumar Yadav began scoring at a brisk pace, adding 153 runs. Suryakumar, playing his first FC match since Feb 2020, scored 90 runs in 80 balls with 15 fours and 1 six.
Jaiswal was then joined by captain Ajinkya Rahane, and the duo added 206 runs for the third wicket with Jaiswal slamming 162 in 195 balls with 27 fours and 1 six. Rahane continued his knock at a brisk pace and scored 204 runs with 26 fours and 3 sixes to his name, before falling to T Thyagarajan.

Hyderabad might have thought they had caught a break with the wickets of both the hitters back in the hut, but then Sarfaraz Khan took over and continued the fast-scoring rate.
At the time of writing this article, Sarfaraz Khan had scored 125* with 18 fours in 160 runs only with Mumbai on 650/6 in 126.3 overs.
Rahane looked like staking his claim for a return to the Indian Test team. The right-hander lost his place in the Test team after India’s tour of South Africa earlier this year and missed the recent series against Sri Lanka, England, and Bangladesh.
A good series of scores like the ones he is getting will go a long way for Rahane to put his name in the hat for the upcoming four-Test series at home against Australia.
