Maharashtra captain Ruturaj Gaikwad lighted up the Sardar Patel Stadium B ground in Motera, Ahmedabad as he hammered a brilliant 220* against Uttar Pradesh helping his team post 330/5 in their ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy match.
Put into bat first, Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed 220* in 159 balls with 10 fours and a humongous 16 sixes in his knock. After him, Ankit Bawne and Azim Kazi made 37 runs each as Maharashtra posted 330/5 in 50 overs.
For Uttar Pradesh Kartik Tyagi with 3/66 was the shining star with the ball.
However, the highlight of Ruturaj’s innings was an over in which he hit a record 43 runs which included 7 sixes, one of which came off a free hit. The unfortunate bowler was Shiva Singh, who bowled the 49th over of the match and went for 7 sixes in the over, helping Ruturaj reach his maiden List-A double hundred.
Gaikwad’s 43 runs was a joint record in List A cricket, while he became the first batter to his 7 sixes in an over. He also became the 11th Indian to hit a double hundred in domestic one-day format.
