IPL 2022: WATCH - Jos Buttler removes his orange cap immediately after Hardik Pandya surpasses him

Buttler reclaimed his orange cap in the second innings against GT.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Jos Buttler on Thursday (14th April) won the hearts of many with his gesture in a match against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Pune. 

Coming to the match against GT, Buttler was the leading run-scorer in the tournament with 218 runs to his name. But Hardik Pandya played a sensational knock of unbeaten 87 runs and displaced the English batter from the top spot in the list of orange cap holders. Notably, the Indian player had scored 141 runs ahead of the match. 

As the all-rounder surpassed him in the 20th over of the GT’s innings, Buttler immediately removed the orange cap and didn’t wait for the innings to end. He impressed many including the commentators with his heartwarming gesture.

However, it only took Buttler four balls to reclaim his orange cap. The wicketkeeper batter came out all guns blazing and smashed yet another half-century in the tournament. He scored 54 runs in just 24 balls and now has 272 runs to his name in just 5 games. 

Coming to the match, after the wicket of Buttler, RR, who were chasing 193 runs, failed to capitalise on the start they got and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. They failed to chase the target and managed just 155 runs to register their second loss of the season. 

The Sanju Samson-led side will next face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Monday (18th April) at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
