Tamil Nadu clinched the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 by beating Karnataka in a thrilling final on Monday (November 22).
Chasing 152 to win, Tamil Nadu needed 16 off the last over with Shahrukh Khan (33* off 15) and Sai Kishore (6* off 3) in the middle. For Karnataka, Prateek Jain did a brilliant job to take the game to the last delivery as he conceded only one boundary in the first five balls.
But when 5 runs were needed on the last ball, Shahrukh smashed a six over deep square leg to guide his team over the line with four wickets left.
After defending their domestic T20 crown, Tamil Nadu players danced to popular number ‘Vaathi Coming’ from blockbuster ‘Vijay the Master’. It was skipper Vijay Shankar who led from the front when it came to flaunting the moves.
Taking to Instagram, Shankar shared a clip of the dance and wrote, “Proud of the boys” in the caption.
This is the third time that Tamil Nadu have won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, having previously secured it in 2006-07 and 2020-21. The side had also made it to the finals in the 2019-20 season, but ended up suffering a narrow defeat against Karnataka.
