Tamil Nadu became champions of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2021-22 after beating Karnataka in the final on Monday (November 22). It was Shahrukh Khan's last-ball six which sealed the match for his team in a 152-run chase.

16 runs were required off the last over for Tamil Nadu, with Shahrukh (33* off 15) and Sai Kishore (6* off 3) in the middle. Karnataka bowler Prateek Jain tried his best to drag the ball till the last delivery by conceding only one boundary in the first five balls.

But when 5 runs were needed on the last ball, Shahrukh smashed a six and helped Tamil Nadu defend their title, also avenging their loss against Karnataka by 1 run in the final of SMAT 2019-20.

The whole team was elated after the winning hit and even the batter had started running as soon as he connected the ball. The celebration video was posted by BCCI domestic on Twitter.

"WHAT. A. FINISH! A last-ball SIX from @shahrukh_35 does the trick! Tamil Nadu hold their nerve & beat the spirited Karnataka side by 4 wickets to seal the title-clinching victory," they wrote.

Tamil Nadu has a record three titles overall - the most by any team in the history of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. They had won the inaugural season of the tournament in 2006-07 and had to wait till the 2020-21 season to win again.
