Vidarbha pacer Darshan Nalkande claimed four wickets in as many balls in the second semi-final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 against Karnataka on Saturday (November 20).
Nalkande, 23, achieved the feat in the final over of Karnataka’s innings as he removed Aniruddha Joshi, BR Sharath, J Suchith, and Abhinav Manohar in successive deliveries.
With his herculean effort, Nalkande became the second Indian to achieve this landmark in T20 cricket after Abhimanyu Mithun. In fact, Mithun had dismissed five batters in a single over while playing for Karnataka against Haryana in 2019.
In international cricket, former Sri Lanka pacer Lasith Malinga had achieved this milestone twice against South Africa and New Zealand.
Coming to Darshan Nalkande, he returned with the impressive figures of 4 for 28 in his four overs against Karnataka. However, it wasn’t enough to seal Vidarbha’s victory.
Karnataka rode on opener Rohan Kadam’s 56-ball 87 and skipper Manish Pandey’s 42-ball 54 to put up a big total of 176//7 on the board.
In reply, Vidarbha fell four runs short of the target. Atharva Taide top scored for Vidarbha with 16-ball 32.
