Jamaica Tallawahs' Andre Russell lit up the Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2021) on Friday (August 27) with the fastest half-century in the tournament's history, off just 14 balls against St. Lucia Kings in Match 3.
Kings' captain Faf du Plessis invited Tallawahs to bat first after winning the toss, a decision they had to regret as the Rovman Powell-led side piled up 255/5 in their 20 overs with Russell scoring 50*, and Chadwick Walton (47), Kennar Lewis (48), Haider Ali (45) and Powell (38) himself playing powerful knocks.
Russell hit three fours and six sixes in his innings and signalled his return to form with the bat after a disappointing first half of IPL 2021 with Kolkata Knight Riders.
Obed McCoy took three wickets but conceded 52 runs in his four overs, while Roston Chase took 2 for 33 in his four-over spell.
In reply, St. Lucia Kings were bowled out for 135 in 17.3 overs with only Tim David (56) putting up a fight in a disastrous game for the team as Jamaica Tallawahs won by 120 runs. Migael Pretorius took 4 for 32, while Imran Khan grabbed three wickets conceding just 7 runs.
