Former South Africa batsman Hashim Amla played a slow but game-defining knock for Surrey in a County Championship match against Hampshire on Wednesday (July 7). He scored 37* runs off 278 deliveries to save the match for his side who were bowled out for just 72 runs in the first innings.
Twitterati reacted to Amla's innings and praised him for saving the match from a tough situation. Hampshire had enforced the follow-on as they scored 488 in the first innings and had a good chance to win the match with Surrey getting bowled out under 100 in the first innings.

Even in the second innings, Surrey found themselves in trouble with three wickets down for 9 runs. But this time Amla stood till the end to ensure a draw for his team. Surrey lost 8 wickets for 122 runs with Amla and Rikki Clarke batting in the middle at the stumps on Day 5.
The ex-South Africa batsman hit five boundaries in his marathon knock. After hundred balls, Amla had scored only 3 runs and he took no risk to make sure he avoids a loss for Surrey.
