Cricket Association of Uttarakhand takes cognisance of Wasim Jaffer incident, asks team manager to submit report

Jaffer stepped down as Uttarakhand coach on February 9.

Wasim Wasim Jaffer was accused of being communal in player selection by UAC secretary Mahim VermaThe Cricket Association of Uttarakhand has asked for a report from senior team manager Navneet Mishra on the issue of alleged bio-bubble breach during former India opener Wasim Jaffer's stint as coach, which ended bitterly earlier this week.

Just a couple of days ago, Jaffer had rubbished allegations by the state body's officials that he tried to force religion-based selections in the team and brought maulvi (Muslim religious scholar) inside the bio-bubble.

The charges were levelled by CAU secretary Mahim Verma.

"The Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU) has taken cognisance of the seriousness of the Wasim Jaffer incident and accordingly instructed its senior team manager Navneet Mishra to submit a detailed report on the matter," Verma said in a CAU media release.

In a press conference, Jaffer on Wednesday (February 10) clarified that he wanted Jay Bista as the captain and not former India U-19 World Cup winner Iqbal Abdullah as was claimed.

Responding to the charge of bringing a maulvi inside a bio-bubble for the players to pray, Jaffer had said: “The Maulavi, Maulana, who came on Friday, I had not called them and the Maulana were called by Iqbal Abdulla. He probably knew someone in Dehradun and on Friday, there is prayer in a gathering, Jumma Namaz.”

"We will decide our course of action only after Mishra submits his detailed fact finding report," Verma further wrote.

"We are already questioning the manager about the bio-bubble breach and will take action against any person/support staff responsible for the breach as players' health safety is paramount for us."

Jaffer has found support from the likes of former India skipper Anil Kumble on this issue.

Wasim Jaffer resigned on February 9, citing "interference and bias of selectors and the association's secretary for non-deserving players" as the reason.
