SMA Trophy 2021: Baroda qualify for final with a comprehensive victory over Punjab

Baroda restricted Punjab to 135/8 after posting 160/3 on the board.

Kedar Devdhar played captain's knock for Baroda | BCCI Domestic/TwitterThe second semi-final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy 2021 saw Punjab facing Baroda at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday (January 29).

Asked to bat first, Baroda posted 160/3 in 20 overs on the back of captain Kedar Devdhar’s 49-ball 64 and Karthik Kakade’s unbeaten 53 off 41 balls.

For Punjab, Mayank Markande (1-29) was economical with the ball and also claimed a wicket. Harpreet Brar may not have taken a wicket but he conceded only 24 runs in his four-over quota.

In reply, Punjab could only manage 135/8 in 20 overs. Except for skipper Mandeep Singh (42* off 40 balls), none of the Punjab batsmen managed to touch the 40-run mark.

Lukman Meriwala was the stand-out bowler for Baroda, picking up 3 wickets by conceding 28 runs in his four overs. Ninad Rathva also got two important scalps while Babashafi Pathan (1-25) and Karthik Kakade (1-5) and Atit Sheth (1-36) also chipped in with wicket apiece.

Baroda will now face Tamil Nadu in the summit clash on Sunday (January 31).
