Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) has suspended Deepak Hooda for the entire domestic season on grounds of 'indiscipline'. The apex council of BCA took the decision on Thursday (January 21).

Hooda had left the squad after accusing Baroda captain Krunal Pandya of using abusive language and bullying. BCA had reprimanded him for putting 'himself above the team'.

Confirming Hooda's suspension for the rest of the season, BCA secretary Ajit Lele said, "The Apex Council decided to suspend him for indiscipline."

BCA had asked for clarifications from the Baroda skipper, Pandya, and the team head coach as well as the team manager. "It was decided by the Apex council that Deepak Hooda has caused disrepute to the organization and will not be considered to represent Baroda in the current domestic season."

After the incident, Hooda had described Pandya’s behavior as "dadagiri". He, in an email to the BCA, said, “I am playing cricket since the last 11 years for Baroda Cricket Association. At present, I am selected for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. I am demoralized, depressed and under pressure.

“At least for the last couple of days, my team captain Mr Krunal Pandya is using abusive language against me in front of my teammates and also other states' teams who have come here for participating in the tournament.”

Hooda further wrote: “He (Pandya) stopped me during practice showing his dadagiri.”

Former India cricketer and Baroda captain Irfan Pathan had called BCA's first response against Hooda 'shocking and disheartening'. He highlighted the tough bio-bubble which is taking a toll on the mental health of players.
