BBL 10: Alex Carey signs long-term BBL deal to stay with Adelaide Strikers

Carey likely to captain Strikers for the most of the BBL 2020-21 season.

Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey has extended his stay at the Adelaide Strikers ahead of the upcoming 10th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2020-21 having signed a fresh “long-term deal” with the club on Monday (November 23).

The left-hander has been with the Strikers since 2016 season of the T20 league and now after signing a fresh contract, he will remain with the club for the next four BBL seasons.

Adelaide Strikers have confirmed a four-year contract extension for Carey on Monday – which means he will be at the club until at least the end of BBL 13.

The 29-year-old is currently the third run-scorer for the club with 1,163 runs from 35 BBL matches so far, including one century and six half-centuries after the regular captain Travis Head and Jake Weatherald apparat from featuring 33 catches and four stumpings.

With India's tour of Australia coinciding with the BBL 2020 till January, Carey set to captain the Adelaide Strikers for most of the upcoming KFC BBL season after playing white-ball series, as Head is expected to miss most of the season owing to national duty.

Carey said about the latest deal in an official statement: “I'm very happy to be staying at the Strikers for the next four years being my home team and it is an unbelievable feeling playing at Adelaide Oval in front of the fans, family and friends, and I really hope that can continue this season.”

The experienced of 69 internationals further added, “The Big Bash is a competition I have loved playing in each year since I first signed, and I can't wait for it all to get started.”

Meanwhile, Strikers’ head coach Jason Gillespie stated: “Alex is a key part of the group, a player and leader of the highest standard, and for him to be at the Strikers for the next four years is a massive result for this franchise, the city, and our fans.”

Gillespie signed off by saying, “We feel we have assembled a squad that covers every facet of the T20 game, and we'll be ready to hit the ground running for a huge tenth season of the Big Bash.”
