Cricket has different ways of dismissals but many of them hardly come into play. But when they do it becomes a major attraction because of the rarity of such dismissals.

An incident during the New Zealand first-class cricket match took place when NZ's Test opener Tom Blundell was given out for obstructing the field. He became only the second player to be given out for obstructing the field in NZ's first-class cricket.

It was the Plunket Shield match between Wellington and Otago when Blundell defended the delivery of Jacob Duffy and the ball was going on to the stumps after bouncing.

He kicked the ball up in the air and it looked like going to hit the stumps again. Unfortunately, Tom couldn't control himself, and mistakenly tried to stop the ball with his hand.

Blundell pulled his hand back after realizing his folly, but it was too late. The opposition fielders appealed in no time and he was given out after scoring 101 on the fourth day of a match.

Apart from Tom, John Hayes was given out, in the same manner, more than 60 years ago. The first batsman to get out obstructing the field was England cricketer Len Hutton in a Test against South Africa in 1951.
