BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said the 2020-21 Indian domestic season will only be possible when travelling within the country is safe once again.
The whole domestic season is greatly uncertain at this stage amid the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions the government has had to impose in an effort to control it.

Usually, preparations for the start of the next season begins around June-July, with August traditionally seeing the first of the competitions taking place. But in current circumstances, that is not feasible at all.
"It (domestic cricket) is necessary, but it will happen only after Coronavirus (pandemic is over). When it is safe, only then, especially junior cricket," Ganguly told 'Sports Tak'.
India being a very large country, with a huge population, makes travelling within the pandemic far from a safe exercise.
And in domestic cricket, the Ranji Trophy alone sees 37 teams plying their trade in different states and venues across the nation.
"We don't want to expose young players," said Ganguly. "Our country is so large and our domestic cricket is so robust that everyone has to travel and play. So till the time it is safe, it will not happen."
As per the Union health ministry, India recorded single-day spike of 24,879 COVID-19 positive cases on Thursday (July 9), taking the overall tally to 7,67,296. 487 new fatalities have been recorded, with the death toll standing at 21,129.
