Former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria has requested the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to remove the life-ban imposed on him in 2013 after being found guilty of spot-fixing in County Cricket.

Kaneria was banned by the PCB for his role in the spot-fixing scandal while for English club Essex after Pakistan’s leading Test spinner lost an appeal on the life ban imposed on him by the England and Wales Cricket Board in 2012.

However, on numerous occasions, Kaneria has spoken about the unfair treatment and argued that if past offenders like Mohammad Amir and Salman Butt can be allowed to play after serving their bans then why not, as his cricketing skill is the only option to earn his livelihood.

On Sunday (June 14), Kaneria has yet again requested the PCB to write to International Cricket Council's (ICC) Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) Chairman to allow him to play at least in domestic cricket. He also posted the letter on his Twitter handle on Sunday.

In a letter to the PCB chairman Ehsan Mani, Kaneria's legal team has written that the former spinner has "suffered unimaginable and incomprehensible hardships, both professionally and personally" and "his sole source of income has vastly been affected" by the life ban.

The letter reads: “PCB has the authority to write to the Chairman ACU thereof making a request at the behest of our client to grant him permission to play and participate in domestic cricket, or any related activity thereof.”

It further claimed that Kaneria has “shown his willingness to undergo any and all educational, rehabilitative, or any other related programs” to return to the game.

The letter concluded, “In light of the above submissions, you are hereby requested to exercise the power given to you under the Code and address the Chairman ACU to grant our Client permission to participate in domestic cricket or activities related thereof as our Client is willing to undergo any and all programs as the same are willing and cooperate to the best of his abilities.”
