Bengal cricketers to take online sessions from VVS Laxman for further improvement

Bengal reached the Ranji Trophy final this season after 13 years.

Bengal finished runners-up in Ranji Trophy | PTILimited to their homes because of the nationwide lockdown amid the COVID-19 pandemic, cricketers of Bengal Ranji Trophy team will be taking online training sessions from former India batsman and state's batting consultant VVS Laxman in order to make further improvement in their games after the brilliant season that just ended.  

Bengal reached its first Ranji final in 13 years, but the team went down to Saurashtra in Rajkot on the first-innings lead to fall painfully short at the last hurdle. Yet, with young players showing the way, it was a season that shall hold the team in good stead going forward.

"I spoke to our batting consultant VVS Laxman today. We will share the footages and clippings from the video analyst and there will be one-on-one sessions on how to improve further," CAB president Avishek Dalmiya told PTI.

"Focus will also be given especially to the top-order batsmen so that performance can be better next season."

Manoj Tiwary and Anustup Majumdar were the stand-out players with the bat for Bengal this Ranji season. Tiwary scored 707 runs in 16 innings at an average of 50.50 with a triple hundred while Majumdar made 704 runs in 13 innings at an average of 58.67, including two centuries. 

In the bowling department, Mukesh Kumar, Ishan Porel and Akash Deep formed a terrific young pace bowling trio that is set to serve the side in years to come. 

Porel, because of his India A commitments, played only six games in the season, but in those, he bagged 23 wickets at an average of only 18.96. 

Mukesh picked up 31 wickets at an average of 23.13, whereas Akash Deep returned with 36 wickets at an average of 17.53.
