India Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (March 24) announced that the country will be under complete lockdown for the next 21 days amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which effectively means that the 13th edition of IPL won’t begin from April 15.

Earlier this month, IPL 2020 was rescheduled from March 29 to April 15 due to the Coronavirus outbreak as the BCCI was hoping that the situation would improve.

However, the Indian board still hasn’t lost hope and is ready to see how the situation evolves before taking action regarding the upcoming IPL edition.

"See IPL is already postponed till April 15 and we are watching the situation very closely. We will see how the situation develops and will take a decision accordingly. Currently, we are not thinking about all those things. Let these things settle down and then only we can start working on it. So, till April 15, we will wait and watch," a BCCI source told ANI on Wednesday (March 25).

The source also confirmed that there is no conference call scheduled to discuss further course of action as there is no clarity.

"See there is no point of having a conference call or to discuss because there is no clarity. Once everything is clear only then can we make a call about what is the further course of action. There is nothing which can be sorted out as of now due to the current situation," he stated.

As of March 25, the COVID-19 crisis has claimed more than 18,000 lives and infected over 422,000 people globally.

In India, around 560 confirmed cases have been reported while 11 people have lost their lives thus far.
