Chandrakant Pandit, former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman and former Chairman of All India Junior Selection Committee, has been appointed head coach of the Madhya Pradesh state cricket team.
Pandit, who is regarded as the domestic cricket’s most successful coach, has enjoyed successful stints with Vidarbha for the last three seasons in which he guided the state side to two successive Ranji Trophy triumphs in 2018 and 2019.
He also coached Nagpur-based side to Irani Cup title back-to-back in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons.
However, Vidarbha failed to make it to the Ranji Trophy knockouts in the 2019-20 edition and Pandit has decided to move to Madhya Pradesh – the team incidentally he captained in the past and he is looking forward to the challenging task of coaching the side.
Pandit was quoted as saying by Times of India: “Vidarbha played very well. I've passed on whatever I could to them, and hopefully, the lessons will stay with them. Coaching MP will be a different challenge.”
The former wicketkeeper-batsman had represented Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai, and Assam at the domestic level while played five Tests and 36 ODIs for India apart from 138 first-class matches.
Noteworthy, Pandit has also coached the likes of Mumbai, Maharashtra, and Kerala in the past.
