Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) has suspended Atul Bedade, coach of its women's team, following complaints that fall under the purview of sexual harassment and public shaming.

The former India right-hand batsman, who has represented the country in 13 ODIs, had been coach of the Baroda women's team during the recently-concluded 2019-20 domestic season.

Complaints against Bedade, stated the suspension letter by BCA issued on Saturday (March 21), included making “personal comments on physicality to personal menstruation; comments that discourage the morals of the team members; angry outbursts unbecoming of a women’s team coach and using unparliamentary language that is not accepted of a person-in-charge; behaviour oblivious of gender sensitivity."

Bedade had joined the Baroda women's team as coach last season. As per reports, the complaints against him were lodged by some members of the team and their families. 

The 53-year-old Bedade had worked and played alongside Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli for Sungrace Mafatlal, an apparel brand, in the early 90s. He later moved on to umpiring, pitch curation, and coaching.
