Despite being one of the consistent performers in India’s domestic circuit in the last few seasons, Saurashtra batsman Sheldon Jackson has failed to impress the national selectors.

In the ongoing season of Ranji Trophy, Jackson has amassed 783 runs from 9 games and has played an instrumental role in Saurashtra’s journey to the semi-final. Last year, the 33-year-old aggregated 856 runs in the First-Class competition but he was overlooked for India ‘A’ selection.
No wonder, he had once vented out his frustration on Twitter and still has the same questions for selectors.
"Last season, I scored 856 runs. You should ask the selectors about my selection. I don't know. They haven't informed me formally or informally about anything. How many players score 700-800 runs consistently? You show me a record," Sheldon quoted as saying by TOI.
Just like several occasions this season, carrying the burden of taking Saurashtra's ship to the shore has again landed on Jackson’s shoulder in the ongoing semi-final against Gujarat.
"It is not only this year, but in the season before this as well I played a similar role for the team as we rarely have Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravindra Jadeja playing, but when they are here, I can play my game and express myself more. But in their absence I also need to construct the innings and carry certain players, because the more I bat the more I make others bat," he said.
On the opening day of the semi-final in Rajkot, Sheldon Jackson notched up his third century of the Ranji Trophy 2019-20 season. He scored 103 as Saurashtra ended the first innings with 304 on the board.
