Australian spin legend and cricket commentator Shane Warne has labeled his former Big Bash League (BBL) team Melbourne Stars as ‘embarrassing’ after they notched a third consecutive defeat in the ongoing 9th season of the BBL 2020 on Saturday (January 25).

The table topper Stars have won 10 of their 11 encounters so far in the ongoing BBL 2019-20 but since then they haven’t won a match, suffering a worst 71-run defeat at the hands of Brisbane Heat on Saturday and Warne was particularly critical of the team’s players’ behavior at the MCG.

Warne further slammed the Stars’ players as they were reportedly seen laughing on the bench when the team was losing wickets at regular intervals against the Heat and eventually lost the match.

The Aussie legend also lashed out at Adam Zampa after he was seen laughing with opponent Marnus Labuschagne as he walked off the field after being dismissed for one run.

Warne said in the commentary about Zampa: “Give up. There’s just no effort, no energy to get back [in the crease]. I don’t like this at all. I said it was embarrassing — it’s getting worse. He should be showing disappointment at just getting out. I don’t like that.”

On Stars’ show, the spin legend said: “Poor is an understatement. Very, very ordinary. Extremely poor. I’ll actually go a bit further than that; that’s embarrassing. This is embarrassing.”

Warne further added, “The top team in the competition. What we just saw from Nathan Coulter-Nile for those three deliveries was embarrassing. He nearly got run out twice, no one called he just started running for no apparent reason. The next one was an easy single and he just made it after jogging, and the first ball he faces we said, ‘you better be sharp’ and he just lunges, ‘oh I’m out bat-pad’. What are you doing? This has been very, very poor from the Stars.”

Meanwhile, Warne’s co-commentator Michael Vaughan was also not pleased with Zampa’s light heartening moment with Marnus at the MCG.

Vaughan signed off by saying, “Zampa is out for one and he’s laughing with Marnus Labuschagne having a conversation. Your team is getting hammered.”
