BBL 09: Haris Rauf's post wicket 'throat slitting' celebration draws flak on social media

Rauf has been impressive with his consistent bowling performance in Big Bash League.

Pakistan's Haris Rauf is in news for his dominant bowling show in Big Bash League. Earlier, the pacer was a replacement for Dale Steyn in the tournament for Melbourne Stars. He got excluded from the side after Steyn's return but got another opportunity on Thursday against Sydney Stars.

Rauf picked up three wickets in the match, but he tended on social media for a different reason. This time it wasn't his bowling, but the offensive celebration which caught everyone's eyes.

The speedster made a throat-slitting gesture while celebrating his wicket in the match which his team won by three wickets.

Social media wasn't happy with the way Rauf celebrated the wicket. They found it over-aggressive. Not to forget West Indies' Marlon Samuels had also got into trouble for similar gestures during a match against Zimbabwe in World Cup 2015.

Australian former rugby league footballer Darryl Brohman posted a tweet about Rauf's celebration and wrote, “Not sure we need the throat-cutting gesture from Harris Rauf every time he takes a wicket. Clearly a very good bowler but the post wicket antics are over the top."
