Ravichandran Ashwin appeared for Tamil Nadu in the Vijay Hazare Trophy Final wearing a helmet bearing the BCCI logo and now is in danger of being fined for it.

Ashwin did not have a good day during the Vijay Hazare Trophy Final where his side Tamil Nadu lost to Karnataka in a rain-curtailed game. To add to the woes, Ashwin failed to perform with the bat as well as the ball. He came in to bat at No. 3 and got out for just 8 runs and then bowled just 2 overs for 11 runs in the second innings. To add more, he has also risked himself of a fine for wearing the BCCI logo on his helmet.

A BCCI functionary said that the players have been briefed about the clothing regulations over the years. According to the regulation, a player can wear the BCCI logo only when he is playing for Team India and not in the domestic games.

He said, “The clothing regulations clearly say that you have to tape the BCCI logo if you plan to use the same helmet in domestic matches like the one you wear while playing for India. The match referees, as well as players, have been briefed about the same over the years and if someone is guilty of committing the mistake, he can be fined by the referee.

Karnataka batsman Mayank Agarwal, who was with Ashwin in India’s Test squad that played against South Africa this week, had taped the logo. His batting partner KL Rahul, who has also played a lot of international games, used a helmet that had no logo on it.

The match will also be remembered for the hat-trick of Karanataka’s seamer Abhimanyu Mithun in the last over of the first innings.
