Hailed as one of Mumbai's brightest young talents, 17-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal on Wednesday (October 16) scored a double hundred in the elite group encounter of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019.
Yashasvi, who just earlier this season made his List A debut, followed his tons versus Goa and Kerala with a memorable outing against Jharkhand, whose fielders were made to chase the leather as the Mumbai youngster enabled his team to a mammoth 358/3 in 50 overs.
The left-hander made 203 runs off 154 balls; his amazing innings including seventeen fours and twelve sixes at the KSCA ground in Alur.
Yashasvi is now the third batsman after K.V. Kaushal and Sanju Samson to score a double hundred in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
The southpaw has had an astonishing rise in the Mumbai cricket circle. He moved to the city as a child of a shopkeeper in Bhadohi in Uttar Pradesh to pursue his cricketing dreams. And initially struggled to make ends meet.
Yashasvi worked at a dairy shop, even sold panipuris, and lived with groundsmen in the Muslim United Club tents in Azad Maidan when local coach Jwala Singh also helped him.
He currently lives in a chawl in Kadamwadi in Santacruz hoping to make to play for the country in international cricket one day, although Yashasvi has already represented India at the U-19 level.
