Uttar Pradesh cricketer Shiva Singh has taken the cricketing world by surprise after his unique way of delivering the ball has gone viral.

Recently, the 19-year-old was called up by the umpires after his delvieries were called dead balls. Why?

Because Shiva was taking a 360-degree turn, moments before delivering the ball in a CK Nayudu Trophy game against Bengal in Kolkata. Umpire Vinod Seshan and Ravi Shankar were not in support of this act. They thought it was a deliberate attempt to distract the batsman.

In a chat with Sportstar, Shiva explained he has tried it in Vijay Hazare Trophy as well. But umpire had no issue there. "I have recently started experimenting with this delivery. I tried it out in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as well. The umpire didn’t call it a ‘dead ball’ then. When I bat, I like to reverse sweep. One day, while batting, the idea came to my mind. I tried and I saw the action was fine, so I went ahead with it," he said.

What's more surprising is umpire giving no reason to Shiva after calling the ball dead. Shivam Chaudhary, the Uttar Pradesh captain also asked the umpire but they had no response. “We asked him why is it a dead ball as I had used the same tactic before. Unke paas kuch reason nahi tha. Woh sirf mana kar rahe the daalne ke liye (the umpire had no reason, he just told me not to bowl like that)," he said.

Shiva, who was part of the U-19 winning team says he won't stop trying this variation which can be helpful in future for him. “When I move, the ball stays in my left hand only and the delivery is also clean. Even my skipper thought it was a legal delivery. I will bowl this delivery in the future, but I would like to consult the umpires and match referees if possible,” he said.

The left-arm bowler ended up picking 4 wickets in the game which his side won.
