By making it to its first-ever Ranji Trophy final, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) made history. After defeating Bengal in the semi-final, which was held at the Bengal Cricket Academy Ground in Kalyani starting on February 15, they accomplished this achievement.
After winning the toss, J&K captain Paras Dogra decided to field first. Bengal reached 328 in the first innings, as Sudip Kumar Gharami blasted 146, while Abhimanyu Easwaran (49) and Shahbaz Ahmed (42) played supporting roles. For Jammu and Kashmir, Sunil Kumar claimed three wickets, while Auqib Nabi grabbed five wickets for 87.
J&K responded with 302 runs in the first innings, including 58 from Paras Dogra and 82 from Abdul Samad, as well as batsman contributions from Auqib Nabi (42) and Yudhvir Singh (33). For Bengal, Mohammad Shami was outstanding, recording his highest-ever 8/90.
Paras Dogra became just the second batter in Ranji Trophy history to reach the 10000-run milestone and joined Wasim Jaffer in the elite list.
In the second innings, Bengal was blown away for just 99 runs, thanks to Auqib Nabi and Sunil Kumar taking four wickets each and Yudhvir Singh’s two wickets. J&K were asked to chase 126 runs by Bengal.
Vanshraj Singh made 43* and finished the game with a six as J&K qualified for the final of the Ranji Trophy for the first time in their First-Class history after 67 years and 335 matches.
Auqib Nabi was named the Player of the Match for his nine wickets and an important contribution of 42 runs.
The Indian cricket fraternity was all praises for the Jammu and Kashmir team for the maiden Ranji Trophy final qualification.
