With a training session in Jaipur, Abhishek Sharma has started preparing for the forthcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, demonstrating his intention to contribute in ways other than batting.
A day before Punjab's match against Uttarakhand, Abhishek was spotted bowling at a practice session at the Anantam Cricket Ground on the outskirts of Jaipur. The left-hander worked on his left-arm spin while the support staff kept a close check on him in videos shared on social media.
Abhishek's work with the ball gives Punjab's plans an additional dimension, even if he will be eager to make his greatest impact with the bat. In white-ball cricket, his bowling has frequently been employed as a backup option. As the tournament goes on, the squad may have greater freedom thanks to the additional emphasis.
An interesting point will be whether Shubman Gill will play for Punjab or not in their upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 fixture. Shubman Gill has not featured in a cricket match since being left out of India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2026.
He has also suffered a foot injury during the South Africa T20I series, and a run in the domestic competition could be a great way to get ready for the next home ODI series against New Zealand.
Punjab has done well in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament. They defeated Maharashtra by 51 runs in their opening tournament and then registered a 9-wicket win over Chhattisgarh. Punjab will play all of their games in Jaipur with clashes against Uttarakhand on December 29, Himachal Pradesh on December 31, Sikkim on January 3, Goa on January 6, and Mumbai on January 8.
