New Zealand were really unlucky as they lost the ICC World Cup 2019 final to England on boundary count after the match and the super over both ended in a tie at Lord’s on 14 July (Sunday).
All the Kiwi players as well as supporters were dejected as the team came so close to winning the cup but still ended up on the losing side.
While talking to New Zealand’s left-arm pacer who took 17 wickets in the showpiece event, he said that he was still struggling to forget the 49th over in which he took the catch of Ben Stokes off Jimmy Neesham but ended up touching the boundary rope.
“I suppose it's just natural to nitpick and pull apart a game like that. You just wonder those little kinds of things that went your way, or didn't go your way or whatever, it could've been a totally different game. Yeah, of course, I'm living the last over throughout my mind a lot,” added Boult.
When Boult was asked about the plans after going back home, the 29-year-old born in Rotorua said, “Well, I'm gonna go home for the first time in about four months. Probably gonna walk my dog along the beach and try and put it aside. I'm sure he won't be too angry at me.”
“it's not gonna be something that disappears in the next couple of days. It's probably something that's gonna be hard to swallow for the next couple of years,” he added.
When asked about the disappointed fans after such a close defeat, the left-arm pacer with 164 ODI wickets said, “We were on a plane for 15 hours and a lot of Kiwis out there were saying 'we felt for you' kind of thing. Yeah, don't really know too much more to say really. Obviously, we're all hurting and yeah sorry for letting everyone down.”
