CWC 2019: Waqar Younis receives backlash after his 'never abuse the game you play' jibe at Team India

India lost the semi-final to New Zealand by 18 runs.

Dhoni's run out ended India's hopes in semi-finals | GettyFormer Pakistan captain and coach Waqar Younis came into the firing range of the Twitterati after his 'never abuse the game you play' jibe at team India, as the Men in Blue lost to New Zealand in the first semifinal of the ICC World Cup 2019.

The two-day long ODI match between two of the most amazing teams in the tournament gave fans from both sides many mini heart attacks and was an absolute roller-coaster ride. After putting 239 on board, the Kiwis rattled the Indian team by removing Rohit, Rahul, and Kohli for just 5 runs on the board and Indian couldn’t recover from that. Only Jadeja (77) and Dhoni (50) showed some promise until both of them got out and New Zealand won by 18 runs.

The whole tournament saw some of the unruliest fandoms from India and Pakistan fans, with Pakistani team crossing the limits on many occasions. As India struggled to get grips on their chase against New Zealand, fans and politicians from Pakistan shared uncouth memes of Abhinandan and broken MiGs.

Even former cricketers, who can be termed the greats of the game, couldn’t hold themselves back from taking a dig at the Indian team. Waqar Younis, possibly the greatest fast bowler the world has ever seen, has been taking shots at India, ever since they lost to England in league stages, putting Pakistan’s knockout chances in jeopardy and he was convinced that the Men in Blue lost the game voluntarily.

He had tweeted, “It's not who you are.. What you do in life defines who you are.. Me not bothered if Pakistan gets to the semis or not but one thing is for sure.. Sportsmanship of few Champions got tested and they failed badly #INDvsEND #CWC2019

Now that India was knocked out of the World Cup, Younis took to Twitter and posted, “Such a brutal game this Cricket and a great leveller... Bites you back when you are expecting the least #CWC19 I learnt a great lesson today “Never Abuse The Game” #INDvsNZL

This act of Younis didn’t go down well with Indian fans who took him to task and here are some of the tweets.
