CWC 2019: Cricket fraternity lauds Australia as they book semis spot; defeat England by 64 runs

Aaron Finch scored 100, while Behrendorff picked five wickets.

Behrendorff and Starc picked nine wickets in between them | GettyThe 32nd match of the ICC World Cup 2019 saw archrivals England and Australia face off at the historic Lord’s ground in London. England came off a loss to Sri Lanka and Australia defeated Bangladesh in their respective last matches and it was kind of a must-win encounter for the home side.

England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and chose to bowl first. Aaron Finch and David Warner (53) added 123 runs in 22.4 overs on a difficult pitch to bat on. Finch continued his innings after Warner fell and got support from Khawaja (23) and Smith (38). He scored his second century of the World Cup in 115 balls and was dismissed on the next ball, having hit 11 fours and 2 sixes.

Alex Carey then made 38* 27 balls to take Australia to a formidable total of 285/7 in 50 overs. Chris Woakes with 2/46 was the pick of England bowlers, who except Adil Rashid, got a wicket each.

Ben Stokes tried his best with a valiant 89 | GettyEngland had hoped for a good start from their top order, but Jason Behrendorff and Mitchell Starc (4/43) had other ideas, as Behrendorff accounted for Vince for a duck and Bairstow for 27, while Starc took care of Root (8) and Morgan (4). Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler (25) tried to rebuild the innings, but Stoinis dismissed him and then Starc got Stokes for 89 in 115 balls, ending his resistance and England’s hopes.

Behrendorff picked a fifer (5/44) and England only managed to make  221 runs and lost the match by 64 runs. With this win, Australia made it into the semi-finals of the World Cup 2019.

Cricket fraternity hailed the five-time World Champions Australia for making it into the final four of the tournament and we have the best tweets for them.
