Michael Hussey, former Australian cricketer, and commentator, on Thursday, 20th June, admitted that Shikhar Dhawan's departure is a major setback for India, but doesn’t think his absence will derail Men in Blue’s campaign in the ongoing World Cup 2019 in England.

Dhawan suffered a broken left thumb after being hit by a Pat Cummins delivery during a World Cup clash between India and Australia, though, the X-ray didn't show any fracture, but a CT scan revealed otherwise as the opener was taken to a specialist for further assessment.

Meanwhile, Hussey believes that India has enough talent in its updated 15-member squad to cover Dhawan’s absence and go all the way in the ongoing World Cup 2019.

In an ESPNcricinfo show, Hussey said, “I do think it's a big loss but I don't think it will derail India's campaign. I think they have got enough depth to cover Shikhar Dhawan. I still think they have got enough talent in their squad to feel that they can go all the way in this tournament.”

Following the latest development, young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been officially named as Dhawan’s replacement in India’s World Cup squad.

Noteworthy, India are currently the fourth team on the World Cup points table and will next take Afghanistan at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton on Saturday, 22nd June.
