CWC 2019: Cricket fraternity lauds Kane Williamson as his 106* helps New Zealand win by 4-wickets in a nail biter

CWC 2019: Cricket fraternity lauds Kane Williamson as his 106* helps New Zealand win by 4-wickets in a nail biter

South Africa now has lost four matches out of six played and have three points to their name.

Lockie Ferguson picked three wickets | GettyThe 25th match of the ICC World Cup 2019 saw New Zealand take on South Africa in what can be described as a nail-biting encounter which went right down to the wire. The Proteas put in their heart and soul in the match, while the Kiwis brought out the best performance in this tournament.

Early rain delay meant that one over was deducted from each innings and match was reduced to 49-over a side game. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and chose to field first. They got the perfect start to the game, as Trent Boult sent back in-form De Kock for just 5 runs. While Amla (55), Du Plessis (23) and Markram (38) got set, no one went onto make a big score.

It was until Rassie van der Dussen (67*) and David Miller (36) came together that South Africa looked like passing the 200 runs mark. They finished on 241/6 in allotted overs. For the Kiwis, Lockie Ferguson picked 3/59 and was mightily impressive.Kane and De Grandhomme's 91-run partnership changed the course of game in NZ favor | GettyThe Kiwi chase started off badly as they lost Munro (9), and Taylor and Latham for one run each. Guptill (35) and Kane Williamson added 60 runs at the top and it was the skipper all the way along, as he stitched important partnerships with James Neesham (23) and Colin de Grandhomme to keep the team in contention till the last overs with a 91-run match winning partnership.

Colin de Grandhomme fell for 60 off just 47 balls when 14 runs were required, but Kane Williamson continued his good work, as there were 8 runs required in the last over bowled by Phehlukwayo.

Santner gave Williamson the strike and swatted the next ball for a six, to complete his century, remaining unbeaten on 106 and guiding his team to a 4-wicket win.

The cricket fraternity appaluded Williamson whole heartedly for his amazing century on Twitter and we have the best tweets for you.
