England beat West Indies by 8 wickets at The Rose Bowl in Southampton and registered their third win of CWC 2019 while West Indies suffered their second loss.

Earlier England won the toss and opted to bat first and Chris Woakes gave them a good start by removing Evin Lewis for just 2 runs. Chris Gayle played a few good shots but couldn't convert his start into a big knock and Plunkett sent him back to the dressing room. Shai Hope looked clueless in his 11 runs knock and got out off Mark Wood bowling and at 55/3 West Indies were in deep trouble.

Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer took the charge to rebuild the innings and their 89 runs partnership brought West Indies back into the match. Hetmyer perished off Root bowling after scoring 39 runs. Nicholas Pooran brought up his maiden ODI fifty but didn't get enough support from the other end and West Indies kept losing wickets and eventually bowled out for 212 runs.

In reply, Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root (opened in absence of injured Roy) gave a good start and kept scoring runs at a good rate and added 95 runs for the first wicket in just 14 odd overs. Bairstow got out off Gabriel bowling after scoring 45 runs. Chris Woakes was promoted to number 3.

Joe Root brought up his fifty and his 104 runs partnership with Chris Woakes set the match for their team and in the 34th over they chased down the target with 8 wickets in the hand. Joe Root played an awesome knock of 100* runs and was named Man of the Match.
