CWC 2019: Trevor Hohns says Australia can pick both Zampa and Lyon in their World Cup squad

Australia is planning to have both Adam Zampa and Nathan Lyon in their squad for this year's ICC Cricket World Cup, hinted Chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns, who has been left massively impressed by the two spinners' performances during the recent limited-overs tour to India.

Wrist-spinner Zampa played the entire series against Virat Kohli's men before he was joined by offie Lyon in Delhi, Ranchi and Nagpur. And it is learnt now that this spin duo will be tried out again during the upcoming five-match ODI series versus Pakistan in UAE.

"Most teams around the world seem to be including one at least and probably two spinners in their World Cup squad," Hohns was quoted saying by AAP on Monday (March 18). "We expect them to. We can't bury our heads in the sand and just say we're going with fast bowlers when spinners in world cricket, and in one-day cricket, in particular, are being very, very successful."

While the 2019 World Cup kickstarts on May 30, it will not be culminating before July 14. Hence, there are tactical benefits of keeping the spinners interested especially for the business end of the marquee event when most surfaces in the United Kingdom will have begun slowing down.

Teams like India will be unleashing Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal for sure, whereas Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali are expected to remain an integral part of England's playing XI in home conditions.

"Pitches may be a little bit worn in the latter part of the tournament, given they will have some traffic on them," Hohns added. "That's an important consideration for us too."

"Nathan we know is a world-class bowler ... very experienced. Zampa is coming along quite nicely, so we're comfortable at the moment. It's a good combination to have."
