This year, after general elections in India, the topic which is most discussed must be the number 4 batting position in the Indian cricket team. Well, it surely has kept Indian fans away from discussing who is better Sachin Tendulkar or Virat Kohli? Yes, it's that important an issue in Indian cricket.

The latest to come up with his suggestion for the number four spot is former Australia cricketer Ricky Ponting. Ponting feels he has a better option for the spot.

Recently, India tried Virat Kohli and even Rishabh Pant for the number 4 position after Ambati Rayudu was given a long stint for the same. Just when fans thought India found a number 4 batsman, Rayudu's form declined.

Ponting suggested India should have tried Shreyas Iyer for the spot after his outstanding outings in the domestic circuit. “They tried a few even during the recent Australia series. Rayudu was there, Rishabh, Shankar. They could have also have tried Shreyas Iyer. He is a very good player. He has had a great domestic season. I am excited to catch up with him. It’s an interesting conundrum; maybe, they can fit in KL Rahul in that spot”, Ponting told Times of India in an interview.

Ricky is in India for the Indian Premier League. He will be coaching Delhi Capitals side who has got a completely new makeover for the upcoming season.

Before Ponting, ex-India captain Sourav Ganguly had come up with an idea of playing Cheteshwar Pujara at number 4.
