Jasprit Bumrah, India's speed leader, will be the spectators on Sunday when Rohit Sharma's team plays Pakistan in a crucial Champions Trophy match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
The 31-year-old incurred an injury during the final Test match against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series earlier last month. Due to mounting concerns over his injury, he was also left out of the white-ball campaign against England at home earlier this month.
Bumrah was included in the provisional team for the Champions Trophy, but the BCCI decided to hold off until the final medical results on his injury were received. However, he was ruled out of contention the night before the deadline.
Harshit Rana replaced Bumrah in the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy 2025.
At the Dubai International Stadium, India will play their second Group A match against bitter foe Pakistan, with a semifinal qualification on the line. In their tournament opener on Thursday, they defeated Bangladesh by a margin of six wickets.
They may therefore almost qualify for the semifinals with a victory over Pakistan. However, Pakistan will be struggling to survive after losing their opening match by 60 points on Wednesday in Karachi.
Before the start of the game in Dubai, Bumrah was spotted entering the venue to support the Indian team. He also met his teammates on the ground and ICC chairman Jay Shah.
He also posed with the ICC Test Player of the Year trophy, the ICC Player of the Year Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy, the ICC Test Team of the Year cap, and the ICC T20I Team of the Year Cap.
