Jasprit Bumrah has reportedly undergone the necessary scans, and a thorough assessment was done by the medical staff of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru on Friday, February 7, 2025. A comprehensive report will be given in the next 24 hours that will decide his participation in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Jasprit Bumrah suffered a back spasm during the final Test of the Australia tour in Sydney, which resulted in him bowling only 10 overs on day one and not bowling further in the Indian team’s loss. He bowled the most overs during Australia, a stunning 151.2 overs, that seemingly led him to break down in Sydney.
He has been closely monitored at the NCA and has even consulted Dr. Rowan Schouten from New Zealand, who had performed his back surgery in 2022 when he first suffered the back stress fracture.
Coming to the issue at hand, Bumrah is expected to stay in Bengaluru to discuss the situation with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical experts and plan his next steps.
Once the medical staff has completed their task, the final word will be delivered to the Indian team management. Following the completion of the report, Dr. Rowan Schouten of New Zealand could be consulted.
The deadline for finalizing the Champions Trophy squad is quickly approaching, and the Indian team management is awaiting the report before making the Bumrah decision. Captain Rohit Sharma stated before the Nagpur ODI, that they would have clarity after the scans were completed and a report is submitted.
Varun Chakaravarthy replaced the seamer in India's squad for England ODIs, and it remains to be seen whether the selectors will opt for Varun's mystery spin or Harshit Rana's pace if Bumrah is still unavailable for selection in ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
