Sanju Samson is reportedly not going to make the cut when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors meet in Mumbai on Sunday, January 19, to decide India's squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The 2025 Champions Trophy will begin on February 19 in Karachi, with India's matches taking place in Dubai. India has been placed in Group A with Pakistan, New Zealand and Bangladesh.

PTI report stated that Sanju Samson is unlikely to be selected for India's Champions Trophy squad. Samson, who was part of Rohit Sharma's T20 World Cup-winning team last year, last played a 50-over match for India on December 21, 2023, against South Africa in Paarl, where he struck a century.

KL Rahul, who did the wicketkeeping for India in the ODI World Cup 2023, is expected to play as a specialist batter in the Champions Trophy, with Rishabh Pant serving as India's first-choice wicketkeeper.

For the reserve wicketkeeper slot, there is expected to be a three-way clash between Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, and Dhruv Jurel. Dhruv Jurel is at the forefront of consideration as Samson decided to skip the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 for Kerala due to personal reasons.

Pant and Jurel are expected to be India's Test and ODI wicketkeeping options in the future, while Samson is thought to be best suited to the T20Is, where he has three hundreds in 2024.

Jurel, who has yet to play an ODI for India, was named to India's T20I team on January 11 for the forthcoming five-match series against England. He made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe, scoring six runs in two games.

Due to Samson's participation in the squad, Jurel is unlikely to participate in any of the five matches against England. Samson will keep wickets for the five T20Is and will also open the batting with Abhishek Sharma.
