India and Australia are clashing in the fifth and final Test of the ongoing BGT 2024 series, with the hosts having a 2-1 lead. India needs to win the ongoing Sydney Test to remain in contention for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final, which will be played in England and feature South Africa.
Meanwhile, India was captained by Jasprit Bumrah as Rohit Sharma opted out of the SCG Test. Shubman Gill replaced him, and Prasidh Krishna replaced Akash Deep due to a back injury. Bumrah won the toss and chose to bat first on a greenish pitch.
And Australian bowlers took advantage of the same to bowl India out for 185. Shubman Gill (20). Rishabh Pant (40), Ravindra Jadeja (26), and Jasprit Bumrah (22) made vital contributions to the Indian team.
For Australia, Scott Boland, who took 4/31, and Mitchell Starc, who scalped three wickets, were the standout bowlers.
In response, India managed to take one wicket, that of Usman Khawaja for just 2 runs as Australia ended day 1 on 9/1.
Before Bumrah bowled that delivery, he was not happy with Khawaja taking his own sweet time to take strike. Then, Konstas said something to the Indian captain and Bumrah asked Konstas why he was interfering in a matter that didn’t concern him.
After Khawaja was caught in the slips, Bumrah celebrated and returned his attention to Konstas, offering an icy stare-down and even celebrating in front of him. Even the normally cool Bumrah seemed excited, underscoring the intensity of the fight.
While the festivities were going on, all of the Indian players went towards the Australian opening, but Konstas strolled off unshaken, surrounded by the Indian team's praises and roars.
