Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant had a tough time while facing the Australian fast bowlers on Day 1 of the fifth Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Pant took multiple body blows from the fiery deliveries of Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland, leaving the southpaw visibly dinged up.

During the 35th over of India’s first innings, Pant suffered a bruise on his hand after being struck by Starc’s length delivery that jumped off as the left-hander tried to defend it. The ball hit near the biceps, prompting the physio to come out and provide some ice pack treatment. The area where he copped the blow turned black as well.

Two overs later, Rishabh Pant copped a nasty blow as Starc’s vicious bouncer hit him on the side of his helmet grill. The left-arm quick rushed towards Pant to check up on the Indian, who was then attended by the physios as drinks were called onto the field.

Boland also inflicted some pain on the Indian glovesman. Pant took a blow around the midriff as he looked to block a delivery in the 38th over.

Coming to the match, the visitors went to lunch with a score of 57/3 on the board, losing KL Rahul (4) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (10) and Shubman Gill (20) cheaply.

In the post-lunch session, India lost the prized scalp of Virat Kohli (17) as Rishabh Pant (32*) and Ravindra Jadeja (11*) stayed unbeaten to take the team to 107/4 at Tea on Day 1.
