Travis Head's surprising bowling heroics in the Melbourne Test sparked a celebration that enthralled both fans and players. The incident happened on day 5 of the recent BGT 2024 Test between Australia and India on day 5 of the match.
After dismissing Rishabh Pant in the closing session of Day 5, a breakthrough that precipitated India's collapse, Head celebrated in an unusual fashion. The bizarre gesture instantly went viral, with some hailing it as amusing and others doubting its intentions.
While Head's celebration has been entertaining, it has also received criticism. Former India batsman Navjot Singh Sidhu expressed his displeasure and urged the ICC to impose fines for what he deemed an unacceptable gesture.
Australia captain Pat Cummins also chimed in on the lighthearted gesture during the post-match press conference.
"His finger is so hot that he is going to put it in a cup of ice. Yes, that's what it is. That's normally the running joke. Was it at the Gabba or somewhere, where he got a wicket as well and just got straight to the fridge, grabs a bucket of ice, puts his finger in,” Cummins told during press conference.
And now, Travis Head himself has revealed the story behind his iconic celebration during the MCG Test. Head, however, was quick to clarify its meaning after the match.
"Finger on the ice. I started it in Sri Lanka. I put my finger on the ice and be ready to go for the next one,” Head told Triple M Radio.
Head further elaborated on his unexpected bowling role in the Test.
"I didn't expect to be bowling. I thought Galle would be my next bowling. I'll go put it down in a little cup of ice, be ready to go up there next," he joked.
Travis Head also shared an Instagram post with a photo with his finger in the ice.
