Veteran Australia batter Steve Smith called debutant Sam Konstas ‘mad’ and stated that Yashasvi Jaiswal played a shot in his direction to hit Konstas to shut him up on day 5 of the recent MCG Test in BGT 2024.
Sam Konstas had an amazing debut for Australia as he notched up fifty in his first innings and dismantled the Indian bowling attack at MCG. He took on Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj and when he fielded, Konstas regularly sledged the Indian batters.
While Konstas and Virat Kohli had their moment on day one of the Test, Steve Smith talked about the hilarious moment involving two young guns Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sam Konstas. On the final day of the Boxing Day Test, Konstas put India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal through his paces.
Realizing the importance of Jaiswal's wicket, constantly chattered with the India opener while standing as a close-in fielder for the spinners. He was heard passing comments like "Out next ball, 6, 7, 8 down".
Stump mics picked up Jaiswal telling Konstas, "Do your job," gesturing at the young Australian as he continued to speak while the batter took his guard. A few balls later, Jaiswal expressed his displeasure by trying to drive a ball outside off stump and hitting Konstas at a ridiculous spot in the process.

Australia's star batter Steve Smith said the youngster got Jaiswal so frustrated that the left-handed batter wanted to hit the ball straight at him to shut him up.
"He's mad. I think he really enjoyed himself under the lid there. He was chirping along. At one point Jaiswal was actually trying to hit the ball at him to try and shut him up. He has brought real energy. He has brought a lot of confidence. It's nice to see him start so well in his first test. I think he has got a bright future," Smith told Channel 7.
Jaiswal was dismissed soon after by a Pat Cummins bouncer for 84. He was India's highest scorer in the second innings.
