Nitish Kumar Reddy met his family in a tearful reunion after his scintillating ton in the ongoing third BGT 2024 Test in Melbourne. He achieved the feat on day three of the ongoing MCG Test as India recovered in chase of Australia’s first innings total of 474.
India resumed on day three at 164/5, with Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja undefeated. However, after a brief partnership, both Pant (28) and Jadeja (17) were dismissed, leaving India on 221/7.
Then Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar came together to score 127 runs for the eighth wicket. Sundar scored 50 runs as part of their partnership before being dismissed by Nathan Lyon.
However, Nitish persisted even as wickets dropped at the other end, scoring an incredible maiden Test century. He scored 105* as India finished day 3 on 358/9, with terrible light forcing an early conclusion to play.
Reddy's father Mutyala nervously watched from the stands as his son edged through the nervous 90s, before wiping away tears of joy as he was mobbed by well-wishers in the MCG crowd.
When Nitish's father was asked about his emotional celebration, he said to the Times of India, "Today is a special day for us. Today Nitish Kumar hit his first hundred that too in Australia."
When the family spoke to Nitish on Friday and how was his mood, his sister replied, "He had those tense moments but he was confident enough that he could score good."
"I can tell for sure, my brother, more than his individual game, he focuses on team game and he plays it. When someone suggests and helps him out to do what he should do, he will definitely do it, I am sure of that,” she added.
Reddy's hundred came off 171 deliveries and included 10 fours and one six. Only nine more deliveries were bowled before play was delayed and then called off due to bad light and rain, with Reddy unbeaten on 105.
Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar Reddy’s family visited the hotel room in Melbourne to meet him and surprised him as well. He was hugged by his mother, sister, and finally his father.
His father got emotional and shed tears, saying that he played well and later thanked the Indian team for the support received by his son.
BCCI shared the video of this emotional meeting on their social media and captioned it: “???????????????????? ???????? ???????????? ????????????????????’???? ???????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????. The Reddy family has been a bundle of emotions today. Witness the magical moment as they embrace Nitish after he wowed the world with his extraordinary maiden Test century at the MCG.
