Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar hailed young Nitish Kumar Reddy’s unbeaten 105 on day three of the ongoing BGT 2024 Test in Melbourne as "one of the greatest Test knocks in Indian history".
Reddy, 21, scored an unbeaten 105 off 176 balls when the team's sixth wicket fell with only 191 on the board. He and Washington Sundar (50 off 162 balls) created a record partnership of 127 runs for the eighth wicket.
Gavaskar had nothing but praise for the young Reddy, who overcame obstacles to score his first Test century.
"This century by Nitish Kumar Reddy must rank as one of the greatest hundreds in the history of Indian cricket. This is the first Test hundred and he is going to score many more in the near future. I am expecting to see him among the runs in the future. He is a star of the Indian cricket," Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
Sunil Gavaskar advised the young batter to remain humble and never forget the sacrifices made by his father and family to get him to this stage.
Gavaskar also urged Nitish to never take Indian cricket for granted and to stay grounded, expecting an extremely successful career for the youngster. He also told Nitish to remain true to himself and keep moving forward with dedication and hard work.
“However, he will have to remember the sacrifices made by his father and other members of the family. Nitish is here because of Indian cricket, and he will have to make sure that he doesn’t take Indian cricket for granted. If he stays true to himself, a successful career lies ahead of him,” Gavaskar stated.
Notably, India at 358/9, still trails by 116 runs the in first innings to Australia's 474.
