Indian team faltered from a strong position as day 2 of the fourth Test of the BGT 2024 in Melbourne ended. The visitors lost three quick wickets to end day 2 on 164/5 as Australia ended things on a strong point.

Resuming batting on 311/6, Steve Smith and Pat Cummins added a further 112 runs for the 7th wicket, and the partnership was broken when Cummins got out for 49 runs. Steve Smith soon followed for a well-made 140 with 13 fours and 3 sixes.

Australia finally folded for 474 runs in the first innings. Jasprit Bumrah took 4/99, while Ravindra Jadeja took 3 wickets for India.

In response, India lost Rohit Sharma, who opened the innings, for just 3 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal held up one end and then KL Rahul made 24 runs before Pat Cummins cleaned and bowled him with a beauty. Virat Kohli then joined Jaiswal and added 102 runs together before hara-kiri happened.

Jaiswal got run out thanks to a huge mix-up with Kohli, who followed soon after for 36 runs. Akash Deep, sent in a nightwatchman, was caught behind for a duck by Boland.

In the end, India finished at 164/5 from 153/2 at one stage at the stumps of day 2. This was a huge letdown for the team and the fans, as well as India, lost the advantage it had conjured with amazing batting.

The cricket fraternity was amazed as well and shared their shocked reactions on social media.
