India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja interacted with the media at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Saturday (December 21), ahead of the traditional Boxing Day Test against Australia starting December 26.
However, the Australian media accused Jadeja of not answering a question in English, sparking a massive controversy.
Meanwhile, a video capturing the entire incident emerged on social media. In the clip shared by 9News Melbourne, the BCCI media manager can be seen having a heated exchange with one of the local reporters, who was not pleased with Jadeja walking away from the scene and refusing to answer a question in English.
While the visiting team’s media manager did his best to explain that Jadeja was in a rush as the team bus running late, the Australian journalist kept arguing with him, calling the situation "disorganised and hopeless".
Earlier, Channel 7 carried out a report claiming Jadeja "refused" to answer questions from their reporters in English and the TV reporters, who had travelled all the way after being "invited" and were left "bemused by the "strange and frosty media conference at the MCG."
This controversy comes a day after the Indian batting stalwart Virat Kohli took an Australian reporter to task for filming his family without permission.
Kohli wasn't happy to see him and his family members being captured by the media. He also confronted a TV reporter over the fact that his privacy wasn't being respected. However, it was only a misunderstanding and the star batter was given assurance that his kids were not being filmed.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy currently stands level at 1-1, and before the fourth and penultimate Test at the MCG, it seems that tension is not limited to the cricketers on the field.
