India’s star batter Virat Kohli has come under scrutiny for his series of low scores in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

Apart from his second innings hundred (100) at Perth, Kohli has registered paltry scores of 5, 7, 11 and 3 so far. The pattern of his dismissals is the biggest cause of concern.

The age-old problem of fishing outside the off stump has led to Kohli’s downfall. He got out while chasing a wide delivery from Josh Hazlewood in the first innings of the Brisbane Test.

On Tuesday (December 17), Kohli was seen practicing hard in the nets. He hit a lot of balls during the additional training session at the Gabba.

Kohli was accompanied by Shubman Gill in the nets. Fast bowlers, including Prasidh Krishna, were steaming in and bowling at the two batters who were determined to regain form.

Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh provided update on the additional training session arranged for the two batters.

"They have been hitting a lot of balls here. Why are they here? They haven't been scoring a lot of runs in this series. India need Virat and Gill to fire. It's so good to see them at the practice session even when Team India is batting out there. They are here in the nets, hitting a lot of balls. You can feel good by hitting a lot of balls. When you are not in form, you can feel better by hitting a lot of balls," Harbhajan told the broadcasters.

"I hope these practice sessions will bring what India needs in the middle," he added.

While Kohli's struggle with the line outside the off-stump was exposed yet again in the third BGT Test, Gill paid the price for playing an extravagant drive early in his innings against Mitchell Starc.

Shubman, who registered scores of 31 and 28 in the pink-ball Test at the Adelaide Oval, was dismissed for 1 off 3 balls in India’s first innings at the Gabba.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is currently tied at 1-1. While India won the series opener in Perth by 295 runs, Australia bounced back to clinch the second Test in Adelaide by 10 wickets.

The winner of the Brisbane Test will be in the driver’s seat to clinch the five-match series, but rain might play spoilsport in the game.
