BGT 2024: WATCH – KL Rahul, Mitchell Starc visibly frustrated after 5th rain interruption on Day 3 of Gabba Test

The frequent breaks hindered the game's flow at the iconic Gabba.

KL Rahul and Mitchell Starc | XThe frustration was palpable on the faces of India opener KL Rahul and Australia pacer Mitchell Starc as the ongoing Gabba Test encountered its fifth rain interruption on Day 3 (December 16).

The frequent breaks hindered the game's flow, especially after only 13.2 overs were possible on Day 1 of the match due to rain.

Australian batters dominated the Indian bowling attack on uninterrupted play during Day 2. Riding on centuries from Travis Head (152) and Steve Smith (101), the hosts racked up a formidable total of 445 in their first innings.

However, the drizzle played spoilsport during the third day’s action, leaving the players and spectators disappointed. Amongst those visibly upset were Rahul and Starc.

Coming to the match, India’s top-order was blown away by the Australian pacers in a rain-marred day at the Gabba. The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal (4), Shubman Gill (1), Virat Kohli (3) and Rishabh Pant (9) failed to reach double figures as the visitors were reduced to 44/4.

When the fifth rain break occurred, India’s score was 48/4 with KL Rahul (30*) and skipper Rohit Sharma (0*) at the crease.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is currently tied at 1-1. While India won the series opener in Perth by 295 runs, Australia bounced back to clinch the second Test in Adelaide by 10 wickets.

The winner of the Brisbane Test will be firm favorites to clinch the five-match series, and the Aussies seem to be in the driver’s seat at the moment.
