BGT 2024: WATCH – Virat Kohli dismissed cheaply while chasing a wide delivery at Gabba; gets slammed by Sunil Gavaskar

Kohli endured yet another failure in the ongoing tour of Australia.

Virat Kohli's dismissal in the first innings of Gabba Test | XThe age-old problem of fishing outside the off stump continues to haunt Virat Kohli. India’s star batter got out for just three runs as he chased a wide delivery from Josh Hazlewood and ended up giving a simple catch to wicketkeeper Alex Carey on Day 3 of the Gabba Test against Australia.

Kohli’s cheap dismissal sparked strong reactions from the fans and cricket experts, including the legendary Sunil Gavaskar.

Speaking on Channel 7, the 75-year-old said there was no need for Kohli to play that shot as the ball was on the ‘seventh, eighth stump’.

"If it was on the fourth stump I could understand," Gavaskar stated. “This was wide, on the seventh, eighth stump, you could say. There's no need to play that.”

Gavaskar also slammed Kohli for not displaying patience as the visitors had already lost Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill to poor shots.

“He'd be very, very disappointed, he'd be very upset with that. Even before Rishabh Pant faced a ball, the rain started to come down and the covers have come on. If Kohli had shown a bit of patience he could be not out with KL Rahul,” said Gavaskar.

In the ongoing tour of Australia, Virat Kohli hasn’t looked in the best of rhythm. Apart from his second innings hundred (100) at Perth, he has registered paltry scores of 5, 7, 11 and 3. The pattern of his dismissals is the biggest cause of concern.

During the pink-ball Test in Adelaide, Virat was undone by a rising delivery from Mitchell Starc outside off stump in the first innings while he got out chasing a wide delivery by Scott Boland in the second essay.

Kohli had failed to tackle the bounce of Hazlewood's delivery in the first innings of Perth Test as well.
